Canada creates a new EE pathway for STEM expertise
On June 28, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced to create a pathway for foreign skilled workers with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) experience under the Express Entry system.
The aim is to prioritize skilled newcomers in these critical fields, addressing the increasing demand for talent and filling key positions that contribute to the country’s economic growth and technological progress.
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, made an announcement on behalf of Minister Sean Fraser, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. The announcement stated that the first round of category-based selection, specifically targeting STEM candidates such as data scientists, software developers and programmers, mathematicians, statisticians and actuaries, and electrical and electronics engineers, will commence in the week of July 5. This initiative will benefit Canada’s science and technology sector by attracting skilled talent required for driving innovations and achieving growth potential in businesses.
In addition to the regular invitation rounds, category-based selection rounds will continue throughout the year, and further details will be announced in the coming weeks. This announcement is a step forward in the Government of Canada’s efforts to address the challenges of the STEM workforce by retaining and recruiting top candidates.
