Expired Refugee Protection Claimant Documents No Longer Valid After April 1, 2025

August 29, 2024— Starting April 1, 2025, expired refugee protection claimant documents (RPCDs) will no longer be valid.

Asylum claimants who need to renew an expired RPCD or replace one that has been lost, destroyed, or stolen can do so through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) web form. For detailed instructions on how to complete the web form, please visit the Replace Your Refugee Protection Claimant Document page.

Please be aware that old paper application forms for RPCDs sent by mail to IRCC will no longer be processed and will be returned to the sender.

After processing a renewal or replacement request, clients will receive their updated document by mail or may be asked to pick it up at a local IRCC office.
