Canada Expands Pathways for Hong Kong Residents

On July 11, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a significant change in the dedicated immigration pathway to welcome Hongkongers.

Starting from August 15, 2023, the education requirement will be removed from the Canadian work experience stream (Stream B) of the Hong Kong permanent residence pathways. This change means that Hong Kong residents with Canadian work experience will have a higher chance for permanent residence, as their educational background will no longer be a limiting factor. Additionally, the application process will be simplified, as applicants will no longer need to provide proof of education.

This amendment complements the recent extension and expansion of open work permits for Hong Kong residents and facilitates a smoother transition from temporary to permanent residence for individuals from Hong Kong.
