Atlantic Immigration Program in Canada Becomes Permanent!

– On December 17, 2021, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the permanent launch of the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIPP)!

Over the past few years, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot has attracted many newcomers and businessmen to its region and therefore has helped local communities prosper.

As announced, the AIP will officially come into force on January 1, 2022, further bringing skilled workers and even international graduates to fill the labour market needs in the region.

To note, the pilot will be closed as of December 31, 2021, and provincial endorsements will no longer be issued. If candidates have already received a valid provincial certificate of endorsement, they can still apply for permanent residence under the pilot until March 5, 2022.

Right now, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is working closely with local employers and provincial governments to ensure a smooth transition between the pilot and the permanent program. As early as March 6, 2022, AIP candidates with a valid endorsement can begin submitting applications for permanent residence under the new program.

The Atlantic Immigration Program is an employer-driven pathway designed to help local employers hire qualified candidates. The pilot was introduced in 2017, and since then, nearly 10,000 job offers have been made by the participating employers and more than 10,000 applicants have become permanent residents through its pilot.

There are 3 categories in the Atlantic Immigration Program, each has its own criteria for language, education, and work experience requirements:

  • Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program
  • Atlantic High-Skilled Program
  • Atlantic International Graduate Program
