Canada Provides Transitional Financial Assistance for Palestinians from Gaza | October 16, 2024
On October 16, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the rollout of transitional financial assistance for Palestinians impacted by the conflict between Israel and Hamas. This initiative is designed to support individuals who have evacuated Gaza by helping them meet their basic needs upon their arrival in Canada.
Palestinians who arrive in Canada will receive financial aid to assist with essential living requirements, such as food, clothing, and shelter, as well as support for integrating into Canadian society and accessing employment opportunities.
Additionally, those escaping the crisis will have access to a variety of resources in Canada, regardless of whether they arrive via the special temporary immigration pathway for extended family or as holders of regular temporary resident visas:
- Financial Support: Essential assistance for living expenses.
- Health Coverage: Temporary health insurance for three months to meet urgent medical needs.
- Settlement Assistance: Includes language classes, orientation to life in Canada (such as enrolling children in school and opening bank accounts), and job search assistance.
- Work and Study Opportunities: Eligibility to apply for fee-exempt study permits or open work permits from within Canada.
