Nova Scotia (NSNP)

Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) of the province of Nova Scotia. 

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) supports the economic and social development of the province by attracting skilled immigrants. The Program allows the province to nominate individuals who have the skills and experience required to fill labour market shortages. The ultimate goal of NSNP is to improve the growth of the province’s economy.

 

Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP): Available Streams

The NSNP has several streams that target different categories of skilled workers. Each stream has specific eligibility criteria that applicants must meet in order to be considered for nomination.

 

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities

The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream chooses applicants from the federal Express Entry system who fulfill the provincial labour market requirements for nomination. Only those candidates who receive a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration are eligible to apply.

 

Labour Market Priorities for Physicians

Interested physicians can apply for nomination through the federal Express Entry system can do so through the Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream. 

However, only those who have been offered approved positions from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre and have received a Letter of Interest from Labour, Skills and Immigration (LSI) are eligible to apply.

 

Nova Scotia Nominee Program: Physician

The Physician Stream is aimed at supporting the public health authorities of Nova Scotia, specifically the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK), in recruiting general practitioners, family physicians, and specialist physicians to work in the province. 

This stream helps the NSHA and IWK in their efforts to attract and retain physicians possessing the necessary skills for positions that could not be filled by permanent residents or Canadian citizens.

 

Nova Scotia Nominee Program: Entrepreneur

Experienced business owners or senior business managers seeking residency in Nova Scotia may apply for the Entrepreneur Stream. The applicants must either start a new business or purchase an existing one, and actively engage in its day-to-day management. 

Upon running the business for a year, the entrepreneur may become eligible for nomination for permanent resident status. However, note that the application process for this stream is by invitation only.

 

International Graduate Entrepreneur

The International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is designed for recent graduates of either a Nova Scotia university or the Nova Scotia Community College. They should have already established or purchased a business within the province and have operated it for a minimum of one year. If the graduate plans to settle in Nova Scotia, they may be considered for nomination for permanent resident status. However, it is worth noting that the application process for this stream is by invitation only.

 

International Graduates In Demand

The International Graduates in Demand stream is designed for recent international graduates whose skills and education align with particular job categories specified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC). Now, this stream is available to workers associated with two NOC job categories:

  • NOC 33102: Nurse Aides, Orderlies, and Patient Service Associates
  • NOC 42202: Early Childhood Educators and Assistants

 

Skilled Worker

The Skilled Worker stream aims to help employers in Nova Scotia recruit foreign workers and recent international graduates. These applicants have the necessary skills required in the province. However, note that an employer may only employ foreign workers for positions that they have not been able to fill with permanent residents or Canadian citizens.

 

Occupations in Demand

The Occupations in Demand stream focuses on particular TEER category 3, 4 or 5 occupations listed in the National Occupational Classification that are currently in high demand within the Nova Scotia labor market. The identification of these occupations in demand is based on labor market information by Labour, Skills and Immigration and the list of eligible occupations may be subject to change.

 

Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry

The Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry stream allows high skill sets individuals who seek to reside in Nova Scotia permanently. Applicants must have at least 1 year of work experience in a TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification, in Nova Scotia.
